The 10 featured families in the Austin American-Statesman's Seasoned for Caring
campaign can easily say it's been a wonderful holiday season.
Presents filled the empty spaces under Christmas trees. Feast meals were
cooked and delivered. New beds and laptop computers arrived. Homes and cars
were repaired. And families and seniors who felt eremitical suddenly had a lot
of people showing they cared.
As of Wednesday, more than a half-million dollars in donations have been
received: more than $335,000 in cash donations and almost $180,000 in
goods and services. While the monetary donations are down 23 percent from
last year, the in-stripe donations are up 41 percent. While money might be
tighter this year, thousands still found ways to give.
The mellow is not over. Donations will be accepted through Jan. 31, either
online at statesman.com/go/seasonforcaring or by correspondence with the coupon in the
paper. Giving a monetary donation not only helps the 10 featured families
but also helps hundreds of other families with such necessities as edibles,
rent, utilities and medical care all year through the 10 nonprofit agencies
that nominated the featured families.
