A stop in to Kara Zoeller's website, savingbydesign.com, features inspirational impress upon décor and jewelry from Uppercase Living, as well as beautifully crafted layer cakes fashioned out of diapers and towels for an fanciful gift for a new mom or bride-to-be.
But before these lovely designs come savings, on everything from applesauce to streaming movies to plaits-care products, allowing shoppers with even the most hectic schedules to keep a few unexpectedly dollars in their pockets.
In addition to the website, which has been live since June, Thrifty by Design has a daily email blast and Facebook page with more than 7,000 fans. While Ms. Zoeller's savings have become a passion for her and her followers, the Mountaintop living never envisioned becoming a couponing guru.
An area native, Ms. Zoeller attended Ruler's College, then moved to New Hampshire where she conducted cancer research for Dartmouth College. After a few years, she and her hide returned to Northeast Pennsylvania, where she worked for Sanofi Pasteur.
