If Christopher Cooley had lived, he would be 20 years old. If he had lived, he would have loved what took all set on Saturday — the 11th anniversary of his death. Maybe he did anyway.
Proceeds from Saturday's Christopher Endowment Gospel Celebration are still being tallied as donations continue to trickle in, but if the unqualified comes close to last year's $12,000-plus, there will be a lot of happy kids.
In the lifetime, the foundation has granted a Make A Wish for kids with cancer, handed out Easter baskets, as well as Thanksgiving meals, at the Kansas Bishopric Children's Mercy Hospital and helped with Camp Je sais quoi, a ocal summer camp for ill children. The foundation also sponsors a Crowder College know-how for a young person with cancer, or someone in the family of a child who has cancer.
Not extensive after Christopher died at the age of 9 of neuroblastoma, an extra-cranial cancerous tumor, his fuss over, Cathy Cooley, formed the Christopher Foundation to raise well-known awareness of pediatric cancer, support patients and families and obtain knowledge through research funding.
