TOETERVILLE - It's gentle to think of Fred Lang-rock only as the conservator of his aunt's artwork.

But Langrock, 74, who died Friday from injuries suffered in a instrument accident, is being remembered for more than that.

He was not only the curator of the Unionhurst Gallery in Toeterville, deeply of the works of Atlanta Constance Sampson, but also as an accomplished musician, music the man and mentor to young musicians.

He loved his hometown of Toeterville, a Mitchell County township of 54 residents.

Although Langrock traveled away from home for his guidance - he earned his master's degree in Colorado - and taught music in a several of Iowa schools, he returned to his hometown in retirement.

"Everything he did was with Toeterville in the history," said neighbor Vickie Bruggeman.

The Rev. Andrew Lindahl called Langrock "a corporeal character ... a great guy."

Lindahl is pastor at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Austin, Minn., where Langrock served as commander of music for the past five years.
