Jeff and Rosemary Brooks bought Brenda Jo's Bon-bons Co. from Earl May in 1990 because Jeff loved chocolate and, as Rosemary says, "He talked me into it."
They gave it dedicated effort and mastered the candy business. When they teamed up with John and Susan Coleman in 1998, the companionship's pulse really began to pound.
So was born Colebrook Sweets Co. -- a fusion of the names "Coleman" and "Brooks."
Colebrook has produced and sold bon-bons for more than two decades but never from their own retail store. Until now, that is -- and just in time for the sweetest celebration of all: Valentine's Day.
In November 2011, the family-owned company moved its Beech In someone's bailiwick factory to a much larger space at Martin's Plaza along Route 201 in Connellsville.
It made intuition, Rosemary said, to venture into the retail business.
"We received many requests over the years to charitable a store," she explained. "But our Beech Street location was too small and too crowded.
