LONDON, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- British retail sector is to fa multiple pressures next year after bidding farewell to a no easy year of 2011.
2011 was a inured year for many economic sectors in Britain, and retail service was no prodigious. Negative news have kept pouring from media, hurting the courage of both consumers and retailers for uncertainties in 2012.
In Britain, the rising unemployment, dropping retail sales, squeezing wages and pay freezes are the factors making consumers cut back on their expenses.
Furthermore, the uncertainty of the interminable eurozone debt crisis and the British government's string of bluff austerity measures will make the days difficult for retail sector.
According to a despatch by Verdict Research, a leading retail research body, consumer spending will bear by 1.2 percent in 2012, the third slowest rate in 40 years.
Comestibles sales are expected to rise strongly, as more consumers will cut back on going out, said the communiqu.
