Anchorage CLINTON — When Tom Corogin was asked once to write an article about why he loves to plane the world, he struggled for a time with the answer.

In his most recent voyage, the 84-year-old bluejacket from Ottawa County — who has crossed the Atlantic nine times and valid made his first attempt to sail around Cape Horn via the South Pacific Lots — experienced his first rescue, plucked from the ocean after enduring two weeks on a harmed sailboat.

He met with a fierce storm. He suffered a serious leg infection that required a nursing home stay. His 32-foot Westsail, his home on the water for 15 years, was swallowed by the Pacific Multitude. He failed, for the sixth time, to reach his destination at the tip of South America, and subsequent attempts to reach that goal are uncertain.

But talk to Mr. Corogin, now safely back in his Catawba Atoll Township home, about not only this latest experience, but all of his sailing quests, and his mush lights as he revels in telling stories of travel, of adventure, of ruthless sailing and resourceful thinking.

DEERFIELD, Ill. — The earlier Easter ripen boosted Walgreen Co.’s sales in Trek, bringing more customers into its stores and increasing sales of seasonal items, the largest U.S. drugstore administrator said Monday.

Walgreen said sales at stores fair at least a year grew 2.3 percent for the month. In those stores, drugstore take rose 2.4 percent and sales of non-apothecary items — products such as nutriment, cosmetics, and furlough goods — rose 2.2 percent.
