The betray's presentation also coincides with Chihuly's creative roots. The upcoming year, 2012, marks a substantive birthday for the American Studio Glass Movement.
"We just thought we would honor the 50th anniversary of the American Studio Glass Campaign by having this show," said Marianne Lorenz, executive director and curator at the Fort Collins Museum of Art.
The Dec. 14 breach will be the museum's first after significant water damage resulting from air-conditioning failures at its 100-year-old National Celebrated Register facility in Old Town Fort Collins caused it to almost in late September.
Chihuly is known for his massive pieces of vibrantly colored blown glass, which he constructs with a tandem join up. The "Venetians" collection was inspired by the Italian city's art deco art glass all the rage in the 1920s and 1930s, which Chihuly saw on a visit to Venice over the winter of 1987 and 1988.
The omnium gatherum's crown jewel, the "Laguna Murano Chandelier," is composed of more than 1,500 away pieces of glass. One of Chihuly's professional crews will be on hand to put the five-piece chandelier together. Lorenz expects the set-up deal with to take roughly three days.
