Smoking and submarines do not mix.
This is the newsletter of the U.S. Navy sent after announcing that smoking will no longer be allowed under the bridges on its powerful submarines on Dec. 31.
"This practice has been initiated for the robustness of the sailors who prefer not to smoke," said Lieutenant Commander be Jones, spokesman for Commander Submarine Forces in Norfolk, Virginia."It is unfair for them to be exposed to adverse invalid secondhand smoke."
Jones said the submarine conducted an inspection in 2009 to propel nine submarines covering four distinct classes of submarines. In this test, he found non-smokers were exposed to the effects of secondhand smoke.
There are 71 submarines of the Navy of the United States and about 13,000 sailors on the submarine energy transfer, according to Jones. Among the sailors, the latest poll shows 35 to 40 percent are smokers, he said....
