The neighbourhood entrepreneur has opened The Art Lounge, a full-service picture framing studio and art gallery, in the 2,000-even-foot former Esso station at 500 E. Main St.
Dice said the matter will offer a collage of items and services. In addition to her retail framing duty, she will sell paintings, pictures, jewelry, pottery and other items produced by nearby artists.
“I don't want to be a stuffy gallery,” said Dice, 32, of Flint, Mich. “I thirst it to be laid-back and cozy. I want there to be something for everyone who comes in here.”
Dice's building formerly housed American Indecorously Photo and Imaging, which was purchased in early 2009 by the UPS Store at the Hillcrest Shopping Center.
To employees the business live up to its claim of being a lounge, she has brought in plush couches and chairs, a coffee maker and an collection of wines, soft drinks and snacks.
The Art Lounge will host events and workshops each month, including enamel nights that allow amateur painters to work alongside district artists. It says it will also continue to participate in the city's Art Walk and will take part in other activities aimed at information and fun.
